Local Area

The Périgord Vert offers a wide range of activities for all ages, many of them just a short drive from Rêves au Soleil. From picturesque villages and local markets, to historic châteaux, and prehistoric caves.

The Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park offers excellent opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding, golf and fishing. If you are a keen nature photographer, the park is also teeming with wildlife.

Nearby towns and villages that are well worth a visit include Brantôme, Périgueux, and Saint-Jean-de-Côle. The region is crossed by four rivers, ideal for canoeing and fishing, and nearby inland beaches provide additional water activities.

Dordogne is also famous for its gastronomy. Local specialities include truffles, foie gras, duck, goose, walnuts, and l’escargot – available at weekly markets and local restaurants when in season.

Tip: It’s best to explore the Périgord Vert by car, as public transport is limited. If you would like more information about any of these places or help planning an itinerary, just ask. We’re always happy to help.

Bourdeilles is a charming little village, less than 10 minutes from Brantôme, perfect for exploring any time of the year. Pack a picnic to enjoy on the banks of the Dronne River and watch the canoes paddle by.

The large, grassed area is great for children to run off steam, and there are two chateaux, a mill, and a manoir to explore, as well as several restaurants to try.  The road leading to Bourdeilles is also interesting as it has impressive rock formations over hanging the road, with houses and rock shelters built against the limestone cliff.

Its medieval houses cluster around a central square, with a château and a priory church at its heart. We like nothing better than sitting with a coffee, and soaking up the peaceful atmosphere. It’s also a lovely place for a relaxed stroll and an ice cream!

The Périgueux miniature tourist train is a great way see all the sights of this beautiful town. Great fun for the kids too.
